Hilliard Enjoys Midwest Visits

6'7" combo forward Idris Hilliard from the Hun School in New Jersey recently took a tour of a couple of Midwest cities for unofficial visits to two schools. In this report, readers will learn where Hilliard visited and his thoughts on the trip as well as his plans for the future.

Idris Hilliard began his travels on Friday, June 23rd. "I went out to Marquette on Friday for one of their 24 hour Elite camp type things," said Hilliard. "So I went out to that and got to meet all the coaches, meet the players, and take a tour of the campus. So, that visit was good."

From Milwaukee, Hilliard then moved south down Interstate 94. "Then I went down to Chicago (on Monday June 26th). I visited DePaul for a couple of hours. The head coach was out coaching at the Under 18 nationals. The coach that was actually recruiting me, Coach (Gary) DeCesare, he's run the ABCD camp, was there. I met with a couple other coaches. They took me around campus and showed me around a little bit. I left Friday and got back earlier (Tuesday)."

Overall, Idris liked his visits to the two Big East schools, but it's somewhat early for him to decide. "Both schools were good," Hillard commented. "I don't have a favorite right now."

Besides DePaul and Marquette, Hilliard also has scholarship offers from Providence, Rutgers, and St. Joseph's. He has also recently visited Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, NC. Idris plans on playing at ABCD Camp in New Jersey in July and on the summer AAU circuit with Team Jersey Elite. Once AAU play is over, Hilliard plans on taking a closer look at his recruitment. "I'll probably narrow it down some time around August. I plan on taking all my official visits. I don't really have a top four or five."

The colleges that Idris has talked to have discussed how he projects as a player at the next level. "Most schools want me to play the three or a three/four combo forward," remarked Hilliard. "They want me to play the wing or combo forward. I'll be a mismatch problem for other teams. The bigger guys, I'll take them outside and the smaller guys, I'll take them inside."
