DePaul Men's BIG EAST Basketball Opponents

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island – The BIG EAST Conference has completed the home and away opponents for the 2006-07 men's basketball league season it was announced by the Big East conference office in Providence today.

As it was last season, the format for league play in 2006-07 will be a 16-game schedule with each school playing eight home and eight away games. Each team will play three opponents twice and subsequently will not face two league members.

The Blue Demons will face Notre Dame, St. John's and USF twice during the season.

Cincinnati, Connecticut, Louisville, Marquette and Pittsburgh will all visit the Allstate Arena while DePaul will travel to Georgetown, Rutgers, Syracuse, Villanova and West Virginia.

Head coach Jerry Wainwright's squad will not face Providence or Seton Hall.

Dates, game times and broadcast outlets will be announced later in the summer.

The annual BIG EAST Conference Tournament, which will feature the top 12 teams in the regular season standings, will be held March 7-10 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The decisions regarding repeat opponents are based on natural interest, geography, rivalries and television contractual obligations. All teams that did not meet last season will be meeting this year. All single-game home and away matchups from last year have been flipped for this season.

"This schedule is more balanced competitively than last year, especially at the perceived top of the conference," said BIG EAST Commissioner Michael Tranghese. "With the strength and depth that we've shown as a 16-team league, we were still able to produce a large number of marquee matchups without simply forcing the perceived top three or four teams to play only each other twice."

The 2006-07 campaign will be the last season for the BIG EAST to have a 16-game conference slate. The league will move to an 18-game schedule in '07-08 when each team will play every opponent once and three opponents twice.
