Q&A with Steve Tucker

As many know, Steve Tucker is the Sun-Times writer that had the exclusive report on Simeon point guard Derrick Rose this weekend. Steve is also the Sun-Times beat writer for the DePaul Blue Demons women's hoops team. We posed a few questions to Steve on both men's and women's hoops. Here is that Q&A…

WeAreDePaul: First off, congratulations on your Derrick Rose story. Media outlets all over the country have been citing the Sun-Times over the last few days.

The first question is how soon do you think Rose will start to take his official visits? Is it safe to say that he will visit all five of the schools on his list?

Steve Tucker: The family is setting up visits for the fall. His brother told me that when Derrick visits the right place for him, he'll know it. My guess is he won't take all five if he finds the school he wants to attend

W: Do you think that Rose will look to complete his visits and reach a decision by the November signing period?

S: He will sign early if he reaches a decision.

W: Do you feel that there is a leader for his services among the five?

S: There have been a lot of rumors about Memphis, but his brother said no.

W: How good of a chance would you say DePaul has of landing Rose?

S: They are on the list so I'd say there is a better chance than if they weren't.

W: Would staying at home and playing in front of the hometown crowd be a factor in Rose's decision?

S: I really don't know

W: OK, now for some women's hoops questions, with the makeup of the returning team and despite the loss of Khara Smith, is it possible that the Blue Demons can go even deeper in the NCAA tournament this season?

S: If the freshmen do well, the team could be very good again. It is certainly possible if they stay healthy.

W: What do you think of DePaul Class of 2007 recruit Taylor Pikes from King High School?

S: She is very good with a huge upside. Very athletic and an outstanding rebounder.

W: Doug Bruno has one scholarship left for the class of 2007, how do you see that working out for the Blue Demons?

S: It depends who they get, if they decide to use it. They are involved with some pretty good prospects.

W: Thanks for your time Steve!
