Blue Madness Opens DePaul Hoops Season -10/13

CHICAGO - DePaul's annual season-opening basketball extravaganza takes place on Friday evening at McGrath Arena on the Lincoln Park campus. Blue Madness starts at 8 p.m. on the corner of Sheffield and Belden Avenues.

Among the many activities scheduled is a special appearance by Chicago favorites – The Blues Brothers. The FREE event is open to all DePaul fans and everyone is encouraged to come to McGrath Arena and join the men's and women's basketball programs in kicking off the 2006-07 season.

Students can win great prizes including DVD players, a mountain bike, adidas gear, book for a quarter, iPods and gift cards. Every student in attendance will get an official Blue Madness t-shirt for the 2006-07 basketball season. In addition, you can enter your name for a chance to shoot for $10,000.

Men's head coach Jerry Wainwright returns his top five scorers from last season as the Blue Demons expect to jump into the thick of the BIG EAST race. Led by Sammy Mejia and 2006 BIG EAST All-Rookie team member Wilson Chandler, Wainwright and the Blue Demons face a formidable schedule this season with non-conferences games against Kentucky, Kansas and Wake Forest prior to the 16-game run in the nation's toughest and most exciting basketball conference – the BIG EAST.

Fresh off the first Sweet 16 appearance in program history, the DePaul women's team returns nine players and three starters from last seasons 27-7 squad. Looking to replace three-time All-American Khara Smith, head coach Doug Bruno looks to Jenna Rubino and Allie Quigley to pace the always high-octane offense that has made McGrath Arena one of the toughest venues in college basketball.

Be there on Friday the 13th to join the Blue Demons at the start of an exciting 2006-07 season.
