Preview Magazines Put DePaul Women in Top 25

CHICAGO – With "Blue Madness" kicking off the start of the 2006-07 basketball season, the DePaul women's programs has been placed in preseason top 25's by various publications. Fresh off the first Sweet Sixteen appearance in program history, the Blue Demons return nine players and three starters from last seasons 27-7 squad.

Looking to replace three-time All-American Khara Smith, head coach Doug Bruno looks to Jenna Rubino and Allie Quigley to pace the always high-octane offense that has made McGrath Arena one of the toughest venues in college basketball.

Athlon Sports slots DePaul at No. 21 in the annual preseason poll. North Carolina is the favorite to win the 2007 NCAA Championship followed by Maryland, Oklahoma, Stanford and Ohio State. The Blue Demons open the season on Nov. 12 at Oklahoma in the State Farm Tip-Off Classic.

Street and Smith's ranks the Blue Demons at No. 19 while junior guard Allie Quigley was picked as an 'honorable mention' member of the "Terrific 10" preseason All-American team. Maryland gathered a preseason top slot from Street and Smith's followed by the Tar Heels, Sooners, Cardinal and Tennessee Lady Vols.

The top-ranked BIG EAST team in each publication was Connecticut placed at No. 8 in Street and Smith's top 25 and No. 13 in the Athlon preseason rankings.

Following "Blue Madness" on Friday night, DePaul starts the preseason schedule on Nov. 1 against Lewis. A Nov. 4 game against the Chicago Challengers closes the exhibition schedule before the Nov. 12 opener at Oklahoma.
