Blue Madness Takes Over DePaul

It was a night for fun and games in Lincoln Park. The start of the men's and women's college basketball season at DePaul University got underway with games, entertainment, dancing, and most certainly some College Hoops action.

The 2006-07 incarnations of the DePaul men's and women's teams were introduced to the crowd including some new faces. Freshman Thijin Moses and Will Walker will bolster the men's squad this season. While Friday marked the debut of freshmen Felicia Chester, Kayla Guidry, Samantha Quigley, and China Threatt along with transfers Deirdre Naughton and Natasha Williams for the women's team.

Women's coach Doug Bruno and men's coach Jerry Wainwright addressed the fans. "As Coach Bruno said there is a special feeling to coach in your hometown,' said Wainwright while holding granddaughter Gracie in his arms. "I'm proud of the way we've progressed. We've got a very challenging schedule and we need you. We need the sixth man."

The Blue Demons then warmed up and participated in a co-ed scrimmage which went down to a game winning shot at the wire.

Chicago's very own Blues Brothers arrived in their Blues-mobile. They were on a "Mission from God" to entertain the crowd at McGrath Arena with their song and dance numbers. The DePaul men's and women's teams got into the act with their own dance routine. The Blue Demons' clown prince of hoops - Lorenzo Thompson stole the show with his impersonation of Aretha Franklin.

On Saturday, it was time to get serious as both the men's and women's teams opened up the official start of practice. They will need to get to work fast as the first exhibition game looms on November 1st.

Official Visits

Boys To Men Academy's Mac Koshwal and Highland Community College's Matija Poscic have already verbally committed to play for Jerry Wainwright next season. Both committed to DePaul without taking their official visit to the university. This weekend both are on campus for their official visits to the school. The DePaul coaching staff wanted to focus on the two recruits over the course of the weekend.

Deng Sighting

Chicago Bulls forward Luol Deng was spotted in the stands on Friday night. Deng undoubtedly came out in support of his fellow countrymen from the Sudan – future Blue Demon Mac Koshwal and Blue Demons freshman Thijin Moses.

New Unis

The Blue Demons men's team will unveil their new uniforms at the annual Tip-Off Luncheon on October 31st. The new Adidas manufactured uniforms will feature a throwback or retro look with a return to the horizontal striping on the side of the uniform that many DePaul fans remember from the 70's and 80's.
