Leon Freeman: Making Himself at Home

Leon Freeman is adjusting to his new home at Boys to Men Math and English Academy in Chicago. The 6-4 guard from Michigan is getting his class work in order and working hard on the basketball court. Freeman has only been in Chicago for 10 days, but is already attracting interest from many high major colleges. Learn more about this big time prospect in this report.

Leon Freeman was a Scout.com top 50 prospect as a senior at Belleville high school in Belleville, Michigan last season. He attracted interest from a variety of high major colleges but ended up short of qualifying for the next level.

For months Freeman looked at his options, he first considered attending Schoolcraft Junior College in Michigan, but felt that he wanted to keep his four years of college eligibility. He then looked at Light of Word Christian Academy in Atlanta, but ultimately ended up enrolling at Boys to Men on October 16th. "There was speculation that he was going to different places, but he was only at one institution and he really had not yet started school at that institution," said Boys to Men coach Loren Jackson.

"I got a call from a friend of mine and I spoke with Leon and told him how we did things at Boys to Men," Jackson said. "He talked to a couple of our players and said he'd like to come."

In his short time at Boys to Men, Freeman appears to be adjusting well. "He's doing fine with us," Loren observed. "He's attending class and he's doing well."

Leon appeared for the first time with his new teammates over the weekend in a scrimmage against Triton junior college and performed well. "He's a big time athlete and a big time player," Jackson remarked. "He's a great kid."

Freeman looks to be one of the top fifth year seniors available in the Spring signing period for the class of 2007. "He has not graduated yet," Jackson said. "We believe we'll be able to meet his needs. He has a chance to make it, he has a chance to be a qualifier."

"He's wide open right now," Loren said. "We've heard from everybody – Cincinnati, DePaul, Tennessee, Michigan State, Illinois, we've heard from a ton."

Freeman figures to be in DePaul's plans as coach Jerry Wainwright looks to round out his recruiting class for 2007. He already has relationships with two future Blue Demons. Leon has been a friend to future Blue Demon Darquavis Tucker from Saginaw, Michigan. He has now had a chance to get to know his new teammate Boys to Men teammate Mac Koshwal who has also committed to the Blue Demons for 2007.
