DePaul Women's Hoops Ranked 20th in AP Poll

CHICAGO – The DePaul women's basketball team entered the preseason Associated Press Top 25 at No. 20. DePaul is one of three BIG EAST programs ranked in the nation's top 20. The season opens on Sunday with the State Farm Tip-Off Classic at No. 3 Oklahoma.

The Blue Demons started the 2005-06 campaign at No. 18 before reaching a program-best No. 10 slot in January. The No. 10 ranking matches DePaul's best ranking in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll. DePaul is No. 19 in the preseason coaches top 25 after finishing in a tie for 13th with Stanford in the final 2005-06 AP poll.

Preseason BIG EAST favorite Connecticut is ranked at No. 8 in the preseason poll while Rutgers stands at No. 12. The Scarlet Knights take on No. 9 Georgia in the first game of the State Farm Tip-Off Classic followed by No. 20 DePaul and No. 3 Oklahoma. The doubleheader is set to be televised on ESPN2.

Baylor sits just ahead of DePaul at No. 19 with 275 points while the Blue Demons stand at 20th with 258 points. California's 256 points place the Golden Bears at No. 21 in the poll. Defending NCAA Champion Maryland gathered 47 first-place votes and 1,246 points to earn the preseason No. 1 ranking. Oklahoma snagged two first-place votes while No. 2 North Carolina had one first-place vote.

DePaul knocked off Lewis and the Chicago Challengers in a pair of exhibition games last week. The Blue Demons begin the regular season on Sunday at Oklahoma before hosting the DePaul Invitational at McGrath Arena, Nov. 17-18.
