The 6-6 senior scored a season-high 23 points with a team-best eight rebounds in DePaul's 64-57 win over fifth-ranked Kansas on Saturday at the Allstate Arena. Mejia was the difference in the game down the stretch, scoring eight straight points including a game-tying three-point field goal with 3:02 left followed by another three-pointer and a layup to give the Blue Demons a 58-53 advantage.
Mejia becomes the first Blue Demon to win the BIG EAST award.
DePaul returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Chicago State at 7:30 p.m. at the Allstate Arena. The contest will be broadcast on WSCR (670 AM) in the Windy City.
