#17 DePaul Rolls Past Loyola in Puerto Rico

GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico - Caprice Smith led five players in double-figures as the No. 17/17 Blue Demons rolled past Loyola-Chicago, 97-70, on Wednesday at the San Juan Shootout.

Every eligible player on the Blue Demon roster knocked down a field goal in DePaul's 10th straight victory. Smith finished with a team-high 19 points while Missy Mitidiero added 15 and Allie Quigley chipped in 13 points. Jenna Rubino posted 11 points and China Threat closed out the double-digit scoring with 10 points.

Smith scored DePaul's first basket and Loyola answered to tie the game at two. Erin Cattell knocked down the Blue Demons next five points to give the squad a comfortable 7-2 advantage at the 18:39 mark. The two teams traded baskets over the next six minutes, but the Ramblers never cut the deficit to fewer than five points.

The Blue Demon defense stopped the Ramblers cold, scoring 16 unanswered points and forcing seven turnovers in the final 7:44 of the first half. DePaul finished the half with a 45-26 lead behind Smith's 11 points.

Felicia Chester registered her first collegiate points on back-to-back baskets during the 17- point swing. She converted on a break away layup following a steal and a jumper with 5:06 to play in the first half.

DePaul (10-1) continued where it left off in the second half, opening the period on an 18-8 run with six players contributing baskets.

The Blue Demons continued to build their lead in the second half, going ahead by as many as 35 points on Threat's jumper with 8:03 left in the contest.

Loyola's Marquise Hanser led all players with 20 points, including consecutive 3-pointers to pull the Ramblers to 79-51 with 7:20 to play.

Loyola (1-9) committed 27 turnovers compared to DePaul's 12. The Blue Demons converted 30 points off turnovers and shot a combined .482 from the field. The Ramblers hit 23-of-61 (.377) shots from the field including eight three-pointers.

Chester led all players with 11 rebounds while Smith registered seven.

DePaul closes out the San Juan Shootout on Thursday facing former Conference USA rival TCU at 5 p.m. (CST). The Horned Frogs knocked off Syracuse, 74-53, in the second game on Wednesday night.

Notes: DePaul's 10 consecutive wins is tied for the fifth longest winning streak in school history… the streak is the longest run since a 10-gamer from Dec. 19, 2003-Jan. 28, 2004... in the last six-plus seasons, DePaul is 70-3 (.959) when scoring at least 80 points... five players scored in double-figures for the second time in the last three games... with the win, Doug Bruno notched his 385th victory at DePaul… DePaul's 97 points are the most in a game this season… the win marks the 100th for DePaul over a Horizon League team and the fourth consecutive this season… overall, DePaul improves to 30-9 against the Ramblers with 13 straight victories.
