DePaul Falls at #19 Louisville, 86-68

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Trailing by just a point at halftime, the DePaul women's basketball team was outscored by 17 points in the second half in an 86-68 loss at #19/17 Louisville on Saturday. Allie Quigley scored 24 points to lead the Blue Demons, but four Cardinal players in double-figures were too much for DePaul.

The two teams blistered the net in the first half with the Blue Demons shooting .455 from the field while the Cardinals posted a .486 field goal percentage.

After falling behind, 17-10, DePaul chipped away and took the first lead of the game on a Sam Quigley three-pointer. Quigley's bomb from behind the arc gave the Blue Demons a 23-20 advantage with 8:41 left until halftime.

Two possessions later, Jenna Rubino knocked down two free throws to push the advantage to five points before Louisville reeled off six straight to regain the lead at 26-25.

The final six minutes of the first half saw the two teams trade baskets as Angel McCoughtry scored the final bucket to give Louisville a 38-37 lead at halftime.

DePaul (14-9, 4-6 BIG EAST) started the second half icey, hitting just five of the first 22 field goal attempts. In the meantime, the Cardinals continued their torrid shooting and built a 13-point lead at 62-49 on a basket by Patrika Barlow with just over nine minutes left in the game. Louisville went 18-of-33 in the second period for a .545 field goal percentage.

Caprice Smith hit a three-pointer to cut the deficit to nine points at the seven-minute mark, but the Blue Demons would get no closer over the remainder of the game. Chauntise Wright converted a three-point play to start a game-deciding seven-point flurry that finished with Louisville (21-2, 7-2 BIG EAST) leading, 73-57.

Allie Quigley led DePaul with 24 points while Rubino added 16 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Erin Carney grabbed 10 rebounds and added six points.

Louisville was led by double-doubles from McCoughtry and Jazz Covington. McCoughtry totaled 29 points and 12 boards while Covington tallied a 14-point, 12-rebound double-double.
