On ESPN's Throwdown Thursday, DePaul's Wilson Chandler led all scorers with a season-high 25 points and grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds to walk away with the Wendell Smith Award, the game's MVP trophy. It was the second time Chandler has won the award. The first came in a 73-67 DePaul win over Notre Dame in Rosemont last season.
Colin Falls led the way for the Irish with 20 points. Rob Kurz scored 15 and snared nine rebounds coming off of an ankle injury. Freshman point guard Tory Jackson chipped in with 12.
Notre Dame's leading scorer Russell Carter was held to nine points by the defensively play of DePaul sophomore guard Jabari Currie.
While Chandler was the game's MVP, it was key plays by senior Marcus Heard down the stretch that helped lead the Demons to the win. Heard contributed 10 points, six of which came in the final four minutes. Heard came up with a clutch layup, dunk, and a putback within that span. Junior guard Draelon Burns chimed in with 11 points for DePaul as the Demons had three players in double figures.
DePaul is now 14-11 and 5-6 in Big East play.
