Caprice Smith Paces DePaul Over Seton Hall

CHICAGO – Caprice Smith tallied a 22-point, 12-rebound double-double as the Blue Demons raced to a 55-27 halftime lead and never looked back for an 85-60 win over Seton Hall. Smith's eighth double-double of the season led four players in double-figures for the Blue Demons.

DePaul (16-10, 6-7 BIG EAST) led from the opening tip as Allie Quigley scored on the game's first possession. A Smith jumper, another by Quigley and a bucket by Erin Carney pushed the Blue Demons ahead, 8-3, less than three minutes into the action.

Leading by three points at 16-13, the Blue Demons opened up the game with a 14-4 run over a five-minute stretch. China Threatt capped the run with a three-point play on a driving lay-up. She converted the free throw after getting fouled to give the home team a 30-17 advantage with 7:54 on the clock.

Holding a 12-point lead, DePaul closed the final seven minutes of the first half with a 22-6 run and took a 55-27 score into intermission. Smith led the way in the first period with 20 points and seven rebounds while the Blue Demons combined to shoot a blistering .590 from the field.

Seton Hall (16-9, 7-6 BIG EAST) never threatened in the second half as DePaul's lead fell below 20 points on just one occasion. Holly Medley knocked down DePaul's 11th three-pointer of the night to give the Blue Demons their largest lead of the game at 85-55 with 4:47 left.

Jenna Rubino followed Smith with 18 points, six rebounds and three steals while Quigley scored a dozen points and Threatt added 11 points off the bench. Medley totaled nine points, four rebounds and three assists in 20 minutes of action.

Noteisha Womack led the Pirates with 17 points and eight rebounds while Ela Mukosiej added 14 points.

DePaul hits the road for a pair of BIG EAST game this week starting on Tuesday at Syracuse. Tipoff at the Carrier Dome is set for 7 p.m. ET before the Blue Demons travel to Pittsburgh on Saturday afternoon.
