D.J. Richardson is arguably the #1 player in the Class of 2009 in the state of Illinois. Today Richardson led his Illinois Stars AAU team past the Illinois Wolves in the semi-finals of the USSA Basketball national championship in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Stars followed that performance up with a win over Florida Elite in the championship game. "We won the championship!" exclaimed Richardson.

The 6-3 guard from Peoria was thrilled to win the tournament MVP award. He was just as excited to learn that he picked up scholarship offers from two high major schools. "My coach (Illinois Stars head coach Troy Johnson) told me that I had offers from N.C. State and DePaul," said D.J.

Richardson's list of offers has now grown to 10 with Baylor, Bradley, Indiana, Illinois, Marquette, Miami, New Mexico, and Notre Dame also offering rides.

Richardson and the Stars ended the July AAU evaluation period on a high note with their win over Florida Elite. For now D.J. plans on resting for a few days before getting back to practicing on the court and preparing for the start of the school year at Peoria Central.
