DePaul Upsets No. 18 Florida State

CHICAGO – Natasha Williams was a perfect 10-for-10 from the field and scored 23 points while teammate Missy Mitidiero added a career-high 22 points as 24th-ranked DePaul beat No. 18 Florida State, 79-68, in the DePaul Invitational on Friday at McGrath Arena.

The victory improved the Blue Demons to 3-0 on the season while the Seminoles dropped to 2-1.

Florida State opened the game strongly and held a steady lead for much of the first half. A jumper by Anitionette Howard with 7:14 to play in the first half gave the Seminoles their biggest lead of the night at 21-12 then Mitidiero took over. The 5-4 senior from Lansing, Ill. scored 11 points over the final 6:25 to get the Blue Demons back in the game.

Allie Quigley scored DePaul's final four points of the half and DePaul went into the break with a 38-37.

The second half was all DePaul.

Williams scored 17 points in the period as the Blue Demons used a 14-3 run early in the half to lead 54-42 with 15:16 to play and essentially put the game away. Florida State would get no closer than eight points the remainder of the contest.

Quigley also scored eight points in the final frame to finish the contest with 12. The Seminoles were led by Mara Freshour who tossed in 14 points while Courtney Ward added 12.

Game Notes: Natasha Williams, who was 10-for-10 from the field, became the 12th player in DePaul history to be perfect from the field with a minimum of five attempts... Williams is the third Blue Demon player to finish with a perfect field goal percentage with at least 10 attempts, Khara Smith was the last player to have a perfect night, going 9-for-9 night against UIC on November 30, 2004... Mitidiero notched a career-high 22 points and was 6-11 from three-point range... with six three-pointers Mitidiero became the 14 player in DePaul history to knock down six three's in a game (the DePaul single-game record is eight)... this was DePaul's 22nd consecutive win over a non-conference opponent at home ... Allie Quigley made her 91st-straight start in a Blue Demon uniform... DePaul's Caprice Smith now needs seven points to reach the 1,000-point mark in her career... DePaul head coach Doug Bruno is two victories shy of reaching the 400-win mark on the Blue Demon bench... DePaul improved to 5-6 all-time against ranked opponents at McGrath Arena.
