Doug Bruno Gets Win #400

CHICAGO – A 21-2 run early in the second half led the Blue Demons to an 80-48 win over visiting Missouri State. DePaul, ranked No. 17 in this week's AP poll and No. 21 in the ESPN/USA Today top 25, held its second consecutive opponent to under 50 points for the first time since Jan. 1999 and gave head coach Doug Bruno his 400th victory at his alma mater.

The Blue Demons jumped out to a 20-6 lead as all five starters registered in the scoring column in the game's first seven minutes.

Missouri State (0-6) answered with 10 straight points and Marisha Brown's jumper with 7:10 left cut the lead to four points. The Lady Bear run ended with back-to-back three-pointers by Deirdre Naughton and Missy Mitidiero to push DePaul back ahead by 10 points at 26-16.

Following a basket by Tiff Terwelp to open the second half, Allie Quigley started the game-deciding 21-2 run by getting her own rebound and putting it back in for a 32-24 lead. Natasha Williams ended the run with a rebound and put back to give the Blue Demons a commanding 51-26 lead with just over 14 minutes left in the game.

DePaul (6-0) pushed the advantage to 30 points with eight minutes remaining on an Erin Cattell free throw before two free throws by Holly Medley gave the Blue Demons their largest lead at 78-41 with 1:44 left.

Naughton finished the afternoon with a game-high 20 points while Quigley added 11 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Williams totaled 13 rebounds and six points with Taylor Pikes putting together her best game in a DePaul uniform with nine points and 11 rebounds.

The Blue Demons knocked down 11 three-pointers while taking advantage of 22 Missouri State turnovers for 31 points. The Lady Bears were led by Maggie Dwyer's 15 points while Brown grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds.

DePaul is off until a Saturday night game against Loyola-Chicago at McGrath Arena. The scheduled start time for the Dec. 8 game in Lincoln Park is 7 p.m.

Game Notes: Doug Bruno became the 40th active NCAA coach with 400 victories... he is the third coach this season to hit the 400-win mark... the win was No. 595 in program history... the Blue Demons have won 88 of 99 (.889 win pct.) all-time games at McGrath Arena... the 6-0 start is the sixth in school history and the fourth in the last five seasons... Missouri State marked the 24th straight win at home against non-conference opponents... DePaul held back-to-back opponents to less than 50 points for the first time since a 53-47 win against Cincinnati on Jan. 3 and a 78-49 win against Loyola-Chicago on Jan. 5, 1999... DePaul has won all three meetings between the two programs.
