#15 DePaul Trounces Loyola

CHICAGO – A 15-1 run midway through the first half led DePaul to a 93-51 win over Loyola-Chicago on Saturday night at McGrath Arena. China Threatt led five players in double-figures with 16 points as the Blue Demons won for the seventh time in as many games this season.

The Blue Demons took an early six-point lead before Loyola (1-8) scored seven of the game's next nine points to cut the deficit to a point at 12-11. Natasha Williams opened the game-deciding run with a short jumper before an Allie Quigley three-pointer at 13:47 for a 17-11 advantage.

Quigley added two more buckets and Threatt finished the run with two straight field goals to give the Blue Demons a 27-12 lead with 10:43 left in the first half.

DePaul, ranked No. 15 in this week's AP poll and No. 16 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' top 25, increased the first-half advantage to 29 points on a jumper by Threatt before Erin Cattell hit a three-pointer to finish the period with a 53-26 lead.

The Blue Demons didn't miss a beat coming out of intermission as they opened up a 33-point lead at 67-34 on a basket by Deirdre Naughton just over five minutes into the second half.

Caprice Smith gave DePaul (7-0) its largest lead of the game as she grabbed a rebound and put it back in to make the score, 84-41, with 7:37 left on the clock.

Threatt's 16 points led all scorers and the sophomore added three steals, two assists and two rebounds. Quigley and Naughton added 15 points each with Naughton adding five assists and three steals. Quigley knocked down three three-pointers to become just the second player in school history with 200 career three's. Cattell scored a season-high 13 points and grabbed five rebounds while Williams notched her third double-double of the year with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Loyola was led by Brittany Boeke with 13 points and five rebounds. The Blue Demons forced the Ramblers into 27 points and scored 34 points off the Loyola miscues.

DePaul concludes the four-game homestand on Wednesday afternoon against Chicago State. Tipoff is set for Noon at McGrath Arena as DePaul University hosts kids from Chicagoland schools for the second annual "Field Trip Day."

Game Notes: The 7-0 start is the fourth all-time... the game was No. 100 at McGrath Arena... the Blue Demons are now 89-11 all-time in the facility... DePaul has won 25 straight at home over non-conference opponents, 27 straight against Illinois teams and 44 consecutive games against Horizon League programs... in addition to the 27 straight wins over Illinois programs, the Blue Demons have also won 41 of the last 42 and 48 of the last 50... Allie Quigley joined Lenae Williams (1998-02) as the only two players in school history to hit 200 three-pointers... she also passed Mfon Udoka (1994-98) for 10th all-time in scoring... Caprice Smith passed Anne McDonald (1995-99) for 19th all-time in scoring... DePaul has won 14 straight against Loyola and lead the series, 31-9.
