Quigley's 36 Points Not Enough for DePaul

TAMPA, Fla. – Despite one of the program's top scoring performances by Allie Quigley, the DePaul women's basketball team dropped a 78-73 BIG EAST game in Tampa on Tuesday night. Quigley dropped in 36 points for one of the top 15 single-game scoring efforts in DePaul history, but it was matched by USF's Shantia Grace with 35 points.

Despite temperatures hovering around 80 degrees outside, the Blue Demons opened the game ice cold by missing their first five shots. On the flip side, USF started with three buckets to take a 7-0 lead less than three minutes into the game.

Quigley broke the ice with a 10-footer on the baseline, but USF didn't let up and scored the next four points for an 11-2 advantage. The lead grew to 17-7 before the Blue Demons scored 10 straight points and tied the game on a lay-up by China Threatt with just under nine minutes left.

USF (12-10, 2-7 BIG EAST) scored the next five points and held the lead through the first half. Quigley tied the game at 34 with 53 seconds left until intermission before Daiane Packer's three from the corner gave the Bulls a 37-34 halftime lead.

Quigley scored the first four points of the second half to give DePaul its first lead of the game, but it was short lived as Porche Grant and Gianna Messina scored on consecutive possessions to regain the advantage for the Bulls.

After Grace hit one of her four three-pointers, Caprice Smith answered with her own bucket from behind the arc and Quigley added two more free throws to regain the lead at the 16-minute mark.

Smith's second three of the night gave the Blue Demons their largest lead at 50-46, but Jazmine Sepulveda followed two game-tying free throws with a steal and lay-up to give the Bulls the lead for good.

DePaul (16-6, 5-4 BIG EAST) pulled to within a point on a Deirdre Naughton three at 4:46, but Sepulveda returned the favor with her own three-pointer and was followed with a lay-up by Grace for a six-point USF lead.

Quigley's 36 points just missed her career high of 37 set against Rutgers last season. She added four rebounds while reaching double-figures for the 100th time in her career. Naughton added 14 points, five rebounds and four assists while Natasha Williams and Smith finished with 11 rebounds apiece.

Grace totaled a career-high 35 points and Sepulveda added 22 for USF.

Game Notes: Allie Quigley reached double-figures for the 100th time in her career... she registered her third career (second this season) 30-point game... Quigley also started her 110th consecutive game... DePaul is 4-4 when allowing 70 or more points and 6-2 on the road this season... the Blue Demons lead the series, 10-5, but have dropped their last two visits to the Sun Dome.
