Bawinkel Headed to the Big 10

Highland Community College shooting guard Devan Bawinkel has found a new home in the Big 10. Learn where the former West Virginia Mountaineer is headed in this report.

Devan Bawinkel feels at home with the Iowa Hawkeyes. "I just think my style of play fits their system," Bawinkel said. "It's a good conference - the Big 10. It's close enough to home, it's only about three hours away. It seemed like the right place for me to go."

The 6-4 shooting guard chose Iowa over Eastern Michigan, Michigan, and Utah State.

Bawinkel felt comfortable with Iowa coach Todd Lickliter. He got to know Lickliter through his longtime friend, Will Veasley, who played last season at Butler University for Lickliter.

For Devan, being a Hawkeye was in his blood and hard to ignore. "Both my parents went to the University of Iowa," shared Bawinkel.

Bawinkel was named the MVP of the Arrowhead Conference in recognition of his play with the Highland Cougars this season.
