NFCA All-Mideast Region Honors for DePaul

CHICAGO -- DePaul's Becca Heteniak, Amber Patton and Sandy Vojik earned Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Mideast Region first team honors. Chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, the honorees are now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams.

Heteniak was named to the first team as a pitcher/utility player. In the circle, the sophomore enters the NCAA Regional with a 31-6 record, the ninth most wins of any division one pitcher this season. Heteniak, who earned All-American honors as a freshman, broke DePaul's single-season strike out record against Pittsburgh at BIG EAST Championship last week. The sophomore has tallied 284 Ks this season for an average of 8.3 strike outs per seven innings. At the plate, Heteniak is batting .274 with six doubles and seven home runs. Earlier this season, Heteniak earned the BIG EAST Conference Pitcher of the Year accolades as well as the BIG EAST Championship Most Valuable Player award.

Patton, a first team all-region selection at third base, leads the Blue Demons with a .402 batting average. The junior enters the NCAA Championship with 80 hits, two shy of tying DePaul's single-season hits record. Patton is second on the team with eight doubles and ranks 96th in the country with a .464 on base percentage. At third base, Patton leads the Blue Demons with 140 assists and has just six errors for a .972 fielding percentage. Last week, Patton earned first team all-BIG EAST at third and was named to the BIG EAST Championship all-tournament team.

Vojik earned first-team distinction as a utility player, spending time at second base and in right field this season. The senior leads the Blue Demons with 10 home runs, two triples and .547 slugging percentage. She is second on the team with a 30 RBI and a .412 on base percentage. Last week, Vojik was named first team All-BIG EAST at the utility position and was named the league's Player of the Week during the regular season.

Patton and Vojik were both named to the second team all-mideast region in 2007, while Vojik also earned the same distinction in 2005.

Including this year's trio, DePaul has had 35th first team all-region selections and 21 have gone on to earn All-American honors.

The Blue Demons (48-16) begin NCAA Regional play on Friday at the Evanston Regional. DePaul will face Drake on Friday at Noon and either Northwestern or Western Illinois on Saturday. The three-day, double elimination tournament will be held at Northwestern's Sharon J. Drysdale Field, May 16-18.
