The DePaul Blue Demons head into their final non-conference game of the 2008-09 season on Sunday afternoon against the Braves of Alcorn State. While many Chicagoans will be watching to see if the Bears can make the NFL playoffs, the most die-hard of DePaul fans will be watching the Demons.
Alcorn State comes into this game at 2-9 and are coming off a 68-49 loss to Xavier of New Orleans, a NAIA school. Junior point guard Troy Jackson scored 28 points for the Braves in the loss.
This is the first meeting between the two schools. Alcorn States competes in the SWAC and were 11-19 last season. While they are listed at 2-9, the Braves have yet to defeat a NCAA Division I opponent. A few weeks ago, Michigan State handed Alcorn a 118-60 thrashing.
Needless to say, Alcorn State is one of the biggest frosted cupcakes on DePaul's schedule. The Blue Demons should have no difficulty with this opponent. DePaul will no doubt get their reserves some playing time and will be looking ahead to their Big East opener with Notre Dame at Allstate Arena on New Years Eve.
