DePaul's Dar Tucker to Sign with Agent

DePaul sophomore forward Dar Tucker will turn professional and sign with an agent as he declares himself eligible for the 2009 NBA Draft.

Dar Tucker, a 6-5 forward from Saginaw, Michigan, led DePaul in scoring this season at 18.5 ppg. Dar shot 39.0% from the field and 28.4% on three pointers. Dar averaged 5.4 rebounds per game for the Blue Demons.

Dar Tucker's 986 points rank third in DePaul history for freshmen and sophomores behind Mark Aguirre and Quentin Richardson.

"After careful consideration, I have decided to enter my name in the 2009 NBA Draft," Tucker said in a statement. "This decision did not come easy for me because of my feelings for DePaul University. Coach Wainwright, my family and I have talked about my future and together we all decided this was the best decision for me at this time based upon personal circumstances."

"The coaches, staff and my teammates have been extremely supportive of me over the last two seasons, including now, and I just want to thank them for their support. Coach Wainwright and Jean Lenti Ponsetto have been instrumental in my development as an athlete and, more importantly, as an adult. Coach Wainwright has taught me about responsibility and accountability, invaluable lessons that will now guide me as I become a professional athlete. Also, I want to thank my family and friends for their love and support. Finally and most importantly, I want to thank the DePaul fans for their support the last two years and I look forward to representing this fine institution on the professional level."

Tucker's 592 points as a sophomore are tied for eighth on DePaul's season chart with David Booth (1989-90).

As a freshman, he picked up BIG EAST All-Rookie Team honors after averaging 13.6 points and 4.8 rebounds in 29 games. He started eight times during the 2007-08 season and averaged 23.6 minutes per game while shooting 50-of-156 (.321) from three-point range.

DePaul's last underclassman to enter the NBA Draft was 2007 first-round selection Wilson Chandler. Chandler was selected by the New York Knicks as the 23rd pick overall and is currently averaging 14.4 points and 5.4 rebounds in his second NBA season. The 2009 NBA Draft is scheduled for Thursday, June 24 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Tucker is expected to sign with agent Chris Grier Luchey of CGL Sports, who also represents former DePaul forward Wilson Chandler.

Tucker has not been projected as a first or second round pick by NBA Draft projection websites.
