George Marshall took an unofficial visit to DePaul University's Lincoln Park campus on Wednesday night. Brooks then received his first scholarship offer this afternoon courtesy of the Blue Demons coaching staff.
Just a few hours later, Marshall picked up his second offer of the day. This time it came from the Illinois State Redbirds.
The 5-11 point guard and his head coach Chris Head stopped by DePaul's McGrath Arena on Wednesday night for an open gym. "I played full court with the DePaul players for a couple hours," Marshall said. "I played real well. I think my team won every game last night. I got a chance to talk with (Blue Demons assistant coach) Tracy Webster after. Today they gave me an offer."
Marshall, who plays on the AAU circuit with the 16-U Illinois Warriors, is also hearing from Illinois State, Marquette, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Purdue and Xavier.
George also took an unofficial visit to Northwestern. "I took a visit to Northwestern a couple of weeks ago," Marshall said. "I played in an open gym with their guys and got a chance to talk with the head coach." George had also visited Northwestern last autumn for a football game.
As a sophomore, Marshall led the Eagles all the way to the IHSA Class 3A supersectional.
Marshall displayed toughness earlier this month at the Hensley Memorial tournament in Fort Wayne, Indiana where he played hurt for the Warriors. "He only played a limited amount due to a fractured toe, but Marshall is tough and consistent," said WeAreDePaul.com's Scott Phillips. "He can score on the inside or outside and also runs a team efficiently and makes the correct decision most of the time."
"I can distribute the ball or be a scorer," Marshall said. "Whatever needs to be done, I can get it done."
In just a short time, Tracy Webster has started to make an impact as a recruiter for DePaul. "He recruited me when he was at Kentucky, when he went to DePaul, he kept recruiting me," Marshall added.
