There is no doubt that Jesse Berry can fill up a box score. As a junior at Lafayette Jefferson, Berry averaged 27.5 points per game and recorded a career high 55 points in one game.
This spring, Berry has been making his mark with the SYF Players. In May, Jesse caught the eye of scouts at the Sabes Invitational in Minneapolis and the Adidas May Classic in Bloomington, Indiana.
The 6-2 guard helped lead SYF to the championship title in Bloomington. "After watching him down in the closing minutes against Eric Gordon All-Stars, we walked away a fan," said Scout.com's Evan Daniels. "An above-average athlete, Berry was great in transition and had a few above the rim finishes. He also appears to be a pretty good long-range shooter, as he knocked in a pair of deep jumpers in this one, as he helped SYF climb back and knock off the Eric Gordon All-Stars."
Jesse has received recent interest from DePaul assistant coach Tracy Webster. He boasts offers from Ball State, Butler, Cincinnati, and Dayton, and is receiving interest from Arizona, Arkansas, DePaul, Minnesota, and Texas A&M.
Berry plans to take a few unofficial visits in the coming month. "I'm going to visit Cincinnati and Dayton," said Jesse.
Jesse also said that his AAU coach has received calls from the new staff at Kentucky, but acknowledged that he hasn't spoken directly to any of the UK coaches yet.
Berry sees himself looking to make a decision on his collegiate future later this summer. "I want to wait till the end of the July period," Jesse expressed.
Jesse is a player that will bring versatility to the backcourt at the next level. "I'm a combo guard," shared Berry. "I can play the two or the one."
"I'm more of a shooter. I shouldn't rely on my jump shot so much, I need to get to the free throw line more often. My on-the-ball and off-the-ball defense is pretty good."
