DePaul Women's Hoops Lands Washington

Shakurah Washington, a 5-11 forward from New York City, has given her verbal pledge to DePaul women's basketball coach Doug Bruno according to Ring City Basketball director Maria Harper.

Shakurah Washington stars for New York powerhouse Murry Bergtraum High School. Washington becomes the second member of DePaul's recruiting class for 2010. She joins Hillcrest guard Uniquah Hampton.

Washington chose DePaul over Louisiana Tech, Marshall, Providence, and St. John's.

"She's a passionate young lady," said Harper. "She's very excited about coming. She's an extremely hard worker who plays bigger than her size. You can always expect nothing but 150% from Shakurah, whether it's on the offensive end of the floor and especially on the defensive end of the floor. She's a phenomenal rebounder."

Washington will bring versatility to the Blue Demons next season. "She's very capable of handling the ball and also playing the guard position," Harper said.

"I think she's going to enjoy the experience of Chicago," said Harper. "It's a great place for her academically and socially."
