The Alabama State Hornets (1-3) are coming off a 82-55 drubbing at the hands of Tulane on Monday night. Senior forward Tramayne Moorer and sophomore guard Jeffery Middlebrooks led the Hornets with nine points each.
Senior guard Menji Mundadi and Moorer lead Alabama State with 10.8 points per game apiece. Mundadi, a graduate of Highland Park High School, will be returing home for this one.
The Hornets only win was a 64-58 victory over Columbus State, a Division II team.
Up till now, the Blue Demons have played at a deliberate pace. DePaul coach Jerry Wainwright might want to think about opening up the throttle a little bit and using DePaul's athleticism and going uptempo on Wednesday night.
The Hornets have been to back-to-back NCAA tournaments, but return none of their starters from last season's NCAA tournament squad.
"They are similar to Detroit in size," Wainwright told WSCR radio on Tuesday night. "They probably play a little bit faster. They're battle-tested kids. They are a team that will ultimately be at the top of their conference when it's all said and done."
The Blue Demons will again be without the services of junior forward Mac Koshwal, who has been sidelined with a foot injury. Koshwal has missed the last two games for DePaul.
On his radio show on Tuesday night, Wainwright set a timeframe for Koshwal's return to the court at 3 to 4 weeks. The university will make a formal statement on Wednesday.
"He's going to rehab and do what's necessary for him," said Jerry. "We're very encouraged that it's not season-ending. You always have to err on the side of caution. We have to make sure he's 100% before you put him back in."
The Last Time
On November 22, 1998 in Montgomery Alabama, the Blue Demons defeated the Hornets 78-74.
