Ponsetto plans to conduct a "national" search to replace Jerry Wainwright after the university parted ways with the head coach of five years today.
"We will do a national search at the conclusion of the season," said Ponsetto. "For obvious reasons, the pool will be much larger, because there are many sitting head coaches who will be interested in pursuing the position.
Ponsetto is committed to bringing in a winner to DePaul.
"We have the financial resources to pay a top-level coach, Ponsetto said. "We are going to get someone who is very successful, without question."
Current Interim DePaul coach Tracy Webster and assistant coach Billy Garrett will both receive consideration for the job at DePaul.
"Tracy absolutely has a chance at this position," said Ponsetto. "As would anybody with the credentials. Tracy is certainly one of those bright young stars. I think Billy Garrett is one of those bring young stars that's out there. I would think that both of them have the potential to apply for the position, but out intention at this time is to do a search at the conclusion of the season."
Among possible names that could be considered for the job are former Kentucky coach Billy Gillespie, current Dayton coach Brian Gregory, and Southern Illinois coach Chris Lowery.
