Spring Period Treats DeLaSalle's Shaw Well

Class of 2011 prospect Mike Shaw's recruitment is taking off during the Spring recruiting period. Learn more about the 6-8 forward from DeLaSalle Institute in Chicago in this report.

During the 10-day open recruiting period this spring, a number of high major coaches have dropped by DeLaSalle to check out Mike Shaw at the Meteors' open gyms.

Oliver Purnell's new DePaul coaching staff stopped by DeLaSalle along with Michigan State's Tom Izzo, Purdue's Matt Painter, and Illinois' Bruce Weber to look in on Shaw this week.

The high-major interest is there because Shaw is a legitimate top 50 player in the class of 2011. Scout.com currently ranks Mike as a 4-star prospect and the eighth best power forward nationally in the class.

Shaw attended DePaul's Blue Madness back in October and continues to receive interest from the Blue Demons staff under Purnell. He would know doubt fit in well with the uptempo system that Purnell now brings to DePaul.

Shaw plans on being in action along with the 17U Mac Irvin Fire team on the AAU circuit this spring, beginning this weekend in Merrillville, Indiana at the Nike Spring Showdown.

"I think we're going to be good," said Shaw. "We got a good team this year. Everybody likes to play together. I think we're going to do good."

The ten schools recruiting Shaw the hardest right now are DePaul, Florida, Illinois, Louisville, Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue, Texas, Wisconsin, and Xavier.

Shaw is now getting increased interest from Louisville with the recent decommitment by 2011 center Michael Chander. Shaw and AAU teammate Wayne Blackshear, who has verbally committed to Louisville for 2011, have often talked about playing together at the next level.

While Blackshear made an early decision, Shaw emphasized that he's in no rush to cut his list down any time soon.

"I'm taking my time with things," Mike said.
