Crockett Picks Up Big East Offer

For Jamie Crockett, the spring recruiting period has been a time where he's showcased his skills and received increased attention on the recruiting trail. This weekend, the 6-4 junior forward from Crete-Monee picked up a Big East scholarship offer. Learn more about Crockett in this report.

James Crockett visited DePaul's Lincoln Park campus this weekend to meet new head men's basketball coach Oliver Purnell for the first time. Crockett walked away from the meeting with a scholarship offer from the Blue Demons in hand.

"It went pretty well," said Crockett. "I met the new coach from Clemson (Purnell). He's a pretty good guy. I like him."

Crockett is an athletic slasher who drives to the rim. Style of play is something that will be important to Crockett in his college decision. Purnell's teams like to press in full court mode for 40 minutes and get out and run.

"They told me they like to play an up and down game, an uptempo game," Jamie said. "They like a lot of athletes. He said I can fit in well with how he coaches."

Crockett got an opportunity to get to know the new staff at DePaul and check out the athletic facilities.

"I liked the gym," Crockett said. "I liked the people; the coaching staff was pretty nice. I liked the weight room. I didn't walk around the campus, but I'll come back again sometime this week."

Besides DePaul, Crockett now has scholarship offers from California, Dayton and Western Michigan.

"In the end, it's probably going to be between Dayton and DePaul," Crockett said of his final decision.

Crockett has also visited the Dayton campus and likes the Flyer program.

"They graduate 100% of their players, that's a big plus," Jamie said.

During the offseason, Crockett is anxiously awaiting news on who Crete-Monee's next boys basketball coach will be. The job position was just recently posted after Rocky Hill's position as basketball coach and dean at the school was eliminated in a reduction in force.

Jamie competes on the AAU circuit for the 17U Mac Irvin Fire team along with a number of future Division I basketball players such as Wayne Blackshear, Andre Henley, Mike Shaw, and Sam Thompson.

"We're going to Houston next weekend for the EYBL tournament," said Crockett.
