Coaches Eyeing Trey McDonald

Every July, players from across the country "blow up" as coaches finally get a chance to see what all the internet buzz is about. For Michigan big man Trey McDonald, the buzz is getting very loud as WeAreDePaul recently caught up with the 2011 big man at the King City Classic.

Trey McDonald, a big man from Battle Creek Central High School in Battle Creek, Michigan, has been enjoying the experience at the LeBron James Skills Academy and the King City Classic.

"It's been really fun. Meeting a lot of new people," Trey said. "(I'm) looking to get better everyday. Just playing hard and having fun."

Trey measured in at 6-9 with shoes on and weighed in at 209 pounds. He is using his size and strength in the post as well as his 7-foot wingspan to play against some of the best post players in the country.

DePaul head coach Oliver Purnell and assistant coach Billy Garrett have made McDonald a priority at the King City Classic, often sitting front and center for his games

"My newest offers are DePaul, Miami (FL) and Arkansas," McDonald said. Iowa, Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Dayton and Oakland have also offered scholarships according to Trey.

With all of the recent attention, McDonald currently has no favorites. He also has a timeframe in mind for his decision.

"I'll probably do some elite camps, take some official visits in September," McDonald said. "I think I'm making my decision in November."

Before then Trey will finish out a busy summer at some high-profile events.

"I'm playing with the Family at Peach Jam and then going to Vegas with the Michigan Mustangs."
