Recruiting Picture Coming in Focus for Shaw

DeLaSalle senior forward Mike Shaw is closing out the month of July in strong fashion. At the End of Season Showdown in Merrillville, Indiana, today, a bevy of college head coaches turned out to see Shaw play with the Mac Irvin Fire. Learn more about Shaw in this report.

Mike Shaw has turned in solid performances throughout the month of July with the Mac Irvin Fire on the AAU circuit.

While some of his teammates have sat out with injuries, Shaw has grinded his way through the aches, bumps, and bruises that the July evaluation period has brought on.

"I wish I didn't have the injuries," said Shaw. "I played through it and it's been going well. I can't sit back and watch my team play without me. It's something I can't do. I love to play. These are my guys. When I see they need me or we're losing, I got to go out there and play."

Shaw led the Fire to a 2-1 finish in pool play on the first day in Merrillville. DePaul coach Oliver Purnell, Illinois coach Bruce Weber, and Michigan State's Tom Izzo all turned out for the morning session today to see Shaw play.

For Shaw, his recruiting picture is starting to come into focus.

"I'm starting to know who's really interested in me," said Shaw. "Right now I know for sure – Marquette, Michigan State, Illinois, DePaul, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Texas."

Shaw also responded to a recent report that his grades at DeLaSalle were a mystery and wanted to clear the air on that subject.

"That's not true, I was on the honor roll all last year," Shaw said.

Shaw enjoys playing AAU ball so much that he'd like to play with some of his teammates on the next level.

"I'd love to play with Jamie (Crockett), Macari (Brooks), Bruce (Barron), everybody," said Mike.

With DePaul also in the mix for Perspectives big man Anthony Davis, Shaw could also see himself playing in the same frontcourt as Davis in college.

"Anthony is a cool dude, I don't see why not," said Mike.
