Over 100 Juniors Expected On Saturday

With the class of 2011 wrapping up, the Blue Devil recruiting focus is shifting towards players currently in the middle of their junior year. On Saturday the program will welcome more than 100 players to Durham.

One position of emphasis in the class of 2012 will be along the defensive line. To that end the Blue Devils will welcome 15 prospects who project to line up at either defensive end or tackle once they arrive on campus in 18 months.

One of the most notable is early three star Greensboro (N.C.) Grimsley prospect D.J. Reader. At 6-foot-3 and 330 pounds, Reader has a number of ACC programs contacting him early including North Carolina, Maryland, Clemson and NC State. At the Under Armor combine in Orlando in late December, Reader earned praise from Scout.com's Andrew Bone who wrote:

"Reader is a spark plug. He is aggressive at the point of attack and has a great punch. He has a nice solid base and a lot of power in his legs. He won the majority of his battles throughout the one on one sessions."

A couple of potential interior defensive linemen from the Pennsylvania/Ohio area expected to be in attendance are Red Land SHS's Bret Niederreither, a 6-foot-3 265 pound prospect out of Lewisberry, Pa and Caleb Stacey, a 6-foot-4, 280 pound prospect out of Oak Hills High in Cincinnati. Early on Stacey claims offers from Toledo and Ohio.

At defensive end the Blue Devils will welcome six players including local Durham Hillside prospect Jamal Marcus (6'3, 245). Additional prospects of note at the DE slot include Suwannee, Georgia's Justin Alabi and Bryson Albright out of Cincinnati's St. Xavier High School.

At linebacker Duke will welcome approximately 13 prospects headlined by Salisbury (N.C.) standout Kavari Hillie. A starter since his sophomore season, Hillie is built like former All-American Mike Tauiliili at 5'11 and 235 pounds. A bit bigger, the aptly named Preston Durham will also be in attendance via Chapman High in Inman, SC.

A handful of Floridian linebackers are also expected to make the trip to Durham led by Fleming Island's Cameron McCurry (5'11, 195), Ocala's Olajuwon Sikes (5'11, 230), and Jacksonville's Kory Williams.

On the offensive side of the ball the Blue Devils will welcome a number of offensive lineman headlined by Frederik, Md.'s Brady Stup (6'5, 260) and Burlington (N.C.) Williams' Jacob Ingle (6'2, 275) who has interest from North Carolina, Duke, and East Carolina. Ingle is considered one of the strongest players in the state, having a recorded bench press of 430 points. He's started at Williams in each of his three years and has recorded all-conference and region honors for the last two seasons.

Cincinatti's Dustin and Derek Ross are also expected to be in attendance. Each Ross brother measures out at 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds and has received interest from Michigan State, Cincinnati, Notre Dame, and Northwestern.

Projected notable prospects at the skill positions include three star Ohio receiver Tres Barksdale and Virginia's Jaleel Dukes. Dukes (6'2, 190) impressed the Scout.com team at the Under Armor event with a 26.5" vertical jump and has been courted by Clemson, UNC, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Maryland, and Ohio State. Barksdale has also caught some early publicity and an early three star rating from Scout. At 6'2, 180, Tres has interest from Michigan State, Notre Dame, Iowa, Kentucky, and Texas A&M.
