Duke Gets West Bracket's No. 1 Seed

The Blue Devils will be the top seed in the West Region's bracket and will open their quest for the 2011 National Title against Hampton.

The Blue Devils are the top seed in the NCAA Tournament's West Region as announced on Sunday night. Duke will open their tournament against Hampton (24-8).

The Pirates are the champions of the Mid Eastern Athletic Conference and have played two "power conference" opponents, losing to Wake Forest and beating Colorado State.

A second round match-up against the winner of the Michigan and Tennessee will be intriguing especially if the Volunteers regain their early season form that resulted in wins over Villanova, Pittsburgh, and Memphis.

The Sweet 16 matchup would come from a pool of teams including Arizona, Texas, Memphis, and Oakland. The Longhorns are currently ranked 10th in the country.

On the bottom half of the West bracket lurks second seed San Diego State, third seeded Connecticut, and 6th seeded Cincinnati.

Duke will play the first two games in Charlotte, and pending advancement would advance to Anaheim (Calif.) for the Regional rounds.

The winner of the West bracket will face the winner of the East bracket where the tournament's top overall seed, Ohio State is slotted along with ACC runner up North Carolina, Syracuse, and Kentucky.

After leading his team to the ACC Championship in Greensboro, Duke coach Mike Kryzewski sits at 898 victories. Should his team advance to the Final Four in Houston, Krzyzewski would set the all-time wins mark with a victory in the National Semifinals.
