As with most prospects who are waiting for that first coaching staff to make the decision to offer, Durham believes the first will serve as a sort of lynch pin for several others. In order to secure that first offer, however, it's up to him to perform well at the various summer combines and camps.
"I'm looking to showcase my speed and strength this summer, and I want to continued to improve my weight and you can always be faster. I think camps are the best way for a coaching staff to see me and it will also give me a chance to compete against the best."
"As far as earning offers from camps goes, I can only focus on what I can control which is improving my performance every time I step on the field. If I do that, everything else will work itself out."
A three year starter at Chapman, spent his first two seasons breaking a couple school records. As a freshman he broke the season tackle record with 126 stops. The next season, he topped that mark with 132 tackles. In 2010, during his junior year, Durham registered 130 tackles en route to all-area honors.
Which jump started his recruitment and triggered a number of staffs to continue to write. Including Duke.
"I get mail every week and have met most all of the Duke coaches through my unofficial visits there. Coach Derek Jones is my recruiting coach, and I really like him. He is from upstate South Carolina. He's talked to me a lot about the future of Duke football."
"When I've visited Duke I've noticed how beautiful the campus is with the architecture of the various buildings. On the field they building a solid foundation to support a winning program, and off the field Duke is known for the commitment to academics excellence."
As he heads into these next few months of recruiting, Durham says he's keeping a level head, but he may have a pair of favorites emerging.
"I have been invited to various Spring Games and practices, but can't always attend all of them. I've been to Clemson, USC, Yale, and also Duke. From letters and my coach hearing from other coaches, I know several coaches are very serious about me. My options are open at this point, but I really do like Duke and Georgia Tech at this time."
