Blue Devils Land Sixth Commitment

Carlos Wray (6'3, 245, DE) has committed to Duke according to sources.

The Blue Devils have landed their sixth commitment from the class of 2012. This time it's Shelby (N.C.) standout Carlos Wray.

The 6-foot-3, 245 pound defensive end prospect has long cited Duke as his leader, and confirmed as much on Monday by phoning the coaches to formally end his recruiting process.

Wray chose Duke over offers from East Carolina, Wake Forest, Minnesota, Ball State, VMI and Gardner Webb.

"I chose Duke because it would set me up for life with that kind of degree. I will be able to get a job anywhere after graduating from there."

In addition to his 6'3, 245 pound demographics, Wray has also recorded a 4.6 forty time and impressive weight room numbers of 315 pounds on the bench press and 475 pounds in the squat. He credits that strength for much of his success throughout his high school career.

"I feel like my strength is exploding off the ball and then ball hawking throughout the play. I do a lot of film study of the opponents' offensive line so I can find and exploit the weaknesses."

As a junior Wray recorded 93 tackles and 14.5 sacks for Shelby while also registering 21 tackles for loss and three forced fumbles. At the next level he projects as either an outside linebacker or defensive end though he has a preference.

"Some coaches have told me I'm not tall enough to play defensive end, but I tell them to look at my tape and tell me that. I play fast and strong, but if I find a school that fits and they are sure it is best for me to play outside linebacker, that's a transition I will make."
