Makai Mason, a 2014 prospect out of Lakeville (Conn.) Hotchkiss, is receiving rave reviews from those in the Northeast and he's expected to play a big role with the Playaz 17's squad in July.
"I just played my first tournament last weekend and I think it went pretty well," Mason told Scout.com. "They are all good kids. I didn't get a chance to play with Kaleb yet, but I'm looking forward to that."
"I just want to go out and prove myself because I'm not sure everyone knows about me," he added. "I'm just going to have fun with that."
The 6-foot-2, 175-pound point guard is coming off a freshman season where he averaged 15 points and spent time playing behind a pair of Division-1 players.
"This year I played a lot off the ball at Hotchkiss with Derrick running the point, but I usually like to run the point," he added
Mason said his vision and leadership skills are among his strengths as a player.
"I think I can read the court really well," Mason said. "I try and make my teammates better throughout the game."
"I have light interest, but I don't know what I want to do yet."
Mason took a trip to Durham (N.C.) this past weekend to participate in one of the summer camps.
