Devils Offer Alex Poythress

Duke has officially offered this five star combo forward out of Georgia.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Alex Poythress has been a Duke target for awhile now. Still, the five-star small forward didn't receive a scholarship offer from the Blue Devils until this week after a strong showing at the AAU Super Showcase.

"It felt pretty good to get the offer from Duke," Poythress said.

Alex received the offer when he spoke to Coach K on the phone after the Super Showcase.

"It was pretty exciting talking to Coach K and everything," Poythress said. "He's a great coach and he has a great legacy behind him."

After a strong July, Duke was in the picture but the Blue Devils stepped up the interest for the Tennessee-native with the offer. Duke coaches have been in attendance for Poythress' games in July.

"(Coach K) said he saw me play at Super Showcase and he saw me play at Peach Jam and he liked what he saw," Poythress said. "I didn't know the offer was coming."

Poythress currently has no favorites at the moment but also mentioned Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Florida, Memphis, Louisville, UConn, Ohio State, Texas and Alabama as schools of interest.

The five star small forward prospect becomes the fifth player from the class of 2012 to have a confirmed Duke offer. Others are Poythress' AAU teammate, Tony Parker, Mitch McGary, Rasheed Sulaimon, and the nation's top player, Shabazz Muhammad.
