Renfree Highlights Duke Football Scrimmage

DURHAM, N.C. – Redshirt junior quarterback Sean Renfree completed 10-of-17 passes for 150 yards and one touchdown to highlight Duke's 85-play scrimmage on Monday evening at Wallace Wade Stadium.

Renfree, who had four completions of 20 or more yards, tossed a 20-yard scoring strike to redshirt sophomore wideout Tyree Watkins. Watkins and senior Preston Scott each caught three passes on the night for 53 yards while freshman Jamison Crowder added three grabs for 20 yards.

The Blue Devil ground attack was paced by sophomore running back Juwan Thompson, who rushed for 47 yards on six attempts. Sophomore quarterback Brandon Connette had eight carries for 39 yards including a one-yard touchdown plunge while junior running back Desmond Scott contributed 31 yards on seven carries. Connette was five-of-nine through the air for 62 yards while redshirt freshman quarterback Anthony Boone hit on three-of-eight passes for 14 yards while rushing six times for 16 yards with a five-yard touchdown run.

The Duke defense forced two turnovers as redshirt junior cornerback Tony Foster and redshirt junior safety Jordon Byas each recovered fumbles.

"All in all, you can tell we have more play-makers on both sides of the ball," said head coach David Cutcliffe following the session.

Cutcliffe also announced that associate head coach Ron Middleton will be off the sidelines indefinitely after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon late last week. Middleton is scheduled to undergo surgery, which will be performed by Duke head team physician Claude "Tee" Moorman III, on Tuesday morning. Shaun Sarrett, a member of the Blue Devil staff since 2008, will resume Middleton's coaching duties with the tight ends.

Duke will host the program's annual "Meet the Blue Devils" event on Saturday beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Wallace Wade Stadium.

The Blue Devils open the 2011 season at home against Richmond on September 3 at 7 p.m. in Wallace Wade Stadium. Tickets are available online at or by calling the Duke Athletics Ticket Office at 919-681-2583.
