Family Ties To Duke For '13 CB

Darius Jones (5'10, 175, 4.4) has some strong ties to the Blue Devil program.

We often hear recruits make the comment that they are looking for a school that has a family atmosphere. However, very rarely do you see a situation where a recruit actually has a relative working as a coach at one of the schools that is recruiting him.

For South Carolina cornerback Darius Jones, that is exactly the situation he finds himself in with the Duke coaching staff.

"My uncle (Derek Jones) is the defensive back coach at Duke, so I will be taking a visit there soon. It's a pretty good experience with me and my uncle because he tells me things that they do and how they have improved."

The younger Jones has yet to visit his uncle at Duke, but says that he was able to watch a few Duke games on television this year. In particular, he came away very impressed with his uncle's position players.

"I think the defensive backs are the best strength of the team right now from what I saw."

Jones says that Tennessee and Duke are the two schools that are recruiting him the hardest right now, but only lists the Blue Devils as one of his two favorite schools, along with Georgia Southern. He says that he would like to get his decision out of the way before the start of his senior year.

Overall, it appears that one factor will be more important than the others when making his final decision.

"It is important that I am close to home. I would go away, but I'd rather be close to home."
