Duke Has Offered Arizona WR

Devon Allen (6'1, 180, WR) has picked up an early Duke offer among others. But will distance be a factor?

When Duke assistant coach Matt Lubick came to the Blue Devil program from Arizona State, he didn't just bring his extensive wealth of football knowledge; He also brought many of his connections with high schools prospects out west.

One such prospect whom Lubick will try to lure to Durham is 2013 wide receiver Devon Allen, who just finished up a solid junior campaign for his Arizona high school team.

"It went pretty well," Allen commented on his junior season. "It didn't go as well as we planned, but we have most of our junior starters coming back next year."

Even with his team's season not going as planned, Allen performed well enough on the gridiron to earn six offers before his junior season was complete.

One of those six offers came from Coach Lubick at Duke.

"I have talked to Coach Lubick once or twice and he sends me some emails. He has been telling me that their team is going to be one of the best in their division and that their school is already one of the best in the nation."

While distance is obviously somewhat of a factor as far as a visit is concerned, Allen has been able to learn a little more about Duke by talking to his friend Charlie Renfree, who is the brother of Duke starting quarterback Sean Renfree. Allen says that he has been told that Duke likes to throw the ball a lot, which he was able to verify when he watched Duke play Stanford on television this season.

Despite the distance factor, Allen is hopeful that he will be able to make a stop by Duke's campus this summer.

"I talked to my dad and he said he wants to try to visit all of the schools that are showing interest to me. I run track over the summer, so I do a lot of traveling then. If I am close to Duke during that time, I will probably try to visit."

The Blue Devils might need that visit to make up some ground in Allen's recruitment, as he currently has two of his other offers as his leaders.

"Definitely, Stanford and Washington are on top right now. There is definitely an opportunity for other schools to come in the mix though. I'm keeping my mind open for sure."
