Rivers Named Rookie of the Week

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke freshman Austin Rivers was named ACC Rookie of the Week on Monday for the third time this season after guiding Duke to wins over Colorado State and Washington.

Rivers averaged a team-high 17.5 points on 11-of-22 shooting from the field (5-of-10 from three-point range) to go along with 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game as seventh-ranked Duke improved to 9-1 on the year.

The Winter Park, Fla., native opened the week with a team-high 17 points in Duke's 87-64 win over Colorado State on Wednesday. Rivers was 5-of-9 from the field, including 3-of-5 from three-point range, and added two rebounds, two assists and one steal in the contest.

In Saturday's 86-80 victory over Washington, Rivers tallied a team-high 18 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists in 25 minutes of action. He knocked down a pair of three-point field goals and also had four rebounds and three assists for the game.

Rivers has scored in double-figures in nine of 10 games this season and has led the team in scoring seven times. He ranks sixth in the ACC (tops among freshman) in scoring a 15.8 point per game and is seventh in field goal percentage (.448). Rivers ranks seventh nationally in scoring among freshman.

Duke returns to action on Monday, Dec. 19 with a home contest against UNC Greensboro.
