Duke Drops In On In-State ATH

With things pretty much settled in the class of 2012, the Blue Devil coaching staff is already putting in work with a number of talented prospects from the class of 2013. One of those resides just a few miles down I-40.

"The Duke coaches dropped by my school this past week," said Southeast Raleigh (N.C.) standout Dante Jones. "They expressed a lot of interest and invited me to junior day this summer."

Jones, who is hearing from a number of schools including Duke, North Carolina State, Middle Tennessee, Colorado, and Clemson, reports a very productive junior season in 2011.

"I finished the year playing a number of positions. On offense I had 256 receiving yards, 120 rushing yards, and 180 passing yards. Defensively I had 47 tackles, 11 pass break-ups, and three interceptions. Overall I scored six touchdowns."

That kind of production is why Duke has made Jones an early target and why head coach David Cutcliffe and assistant Ron Middleton were in Raleigh this week.

"They are telling me they are extremely interested and they wanted to check and see if my grades were up to par. My primary contact so far as been Coach Middleton and Duke's overall pitch has been to come in and get a great education at a school that's close to home, but not too close. I know they pass the ball a lot and with my abilities they think I could play early in my career."

Jones currently measures out at 5'11 and 170 pounds and is being recruited as a slot receiver and special teams athlete. He reports regular contact from the Blue Devils and says the coaches have made a good impression so far.

"At this point I'm very excited and grateful to be in this situation with my recruiting. I'm just going to keep working hard off the field and on so that I can earn a scholarship offer and maybe be a Blue Devil someday."
