International Alumni Update: Feb 17

Tracking former Blue Devils playing their professional ball overseas

Jon Scheyer and Maccabi Tel Aviv were in the semi-finals of the Cup in Israel on Monday and beat Hapoel Holon 91-70 to advance to a final matchup with Maccabi Rishon.  Jon had a quiet 3 minutes of action as Devin Smith had 20 points and 7 rebounds and Keith Langford had 17 points.  In the loss, ex-Fordham player Bryant Dunston had 21 points and 10 rebounds and ex-Ohio State player Ron Lewis had 18 points. Also in Israel, Alana Beard and Elitzur Ramla defeated Maccabi Ramat Hen 74-53.  Alana had 14 points and 6 rebounds in 31 minutes as the newest WNBA addition, ex-Xavier player Amber Harris had 22 points, Tanisha Wright had 13 points and 9 rebounds, and Katia Levitsky had 10 points and 9 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-Oklahoma player Danielle Robinson had 16 points, ex-Nebraska player Kelsey Griffin had 12 points and 12 rebounds, and ex-UCLA player Darxia Morris had 12 points.  Here is the boxscore

Karima Christmas and Bnot Hasharon got the win they had been working so hard for after defeating Hapoel Tel-Aviv 75-66 at home.  Karima was critical to the cause with 27 points and 9 rebounds in 33 minutes as Kerri Gardin had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Shimrit Gigi had 12 points.  In the loss, ex-UAB player Deanna Jackson had 17 points and 9 rebounds, ex-Georgia player Sherill Baker had 22 points, ex-Southern Miss player Tanesha Washington had 10 points and 12 rebounds, and ex-Tennessee player Alexis Hornbuckle had 10 points and 11 rebounds. On Tuesday, David McClure and Kedainiai returned to Baltic League action at Siauliai and ended up playing a thriller.  A great comeback by the visitors sent the game into overtime, where they prevailed 105-99.  David had 13 points and 10 rebounds in 33 minutes as Aurimas Adomaitis added 19 points.  In the loss, ex-George Mason player Cam Long had 31 points and 6 rebounds, ex-JC player Arvydas Siksnius had 11 points, and ex-TCU player Edvinas Ruzgas had 10 points.  Here is the boxscore

Daniel Ewing and Azovmash had their first league game in a while and used a strong second quarter to blast Mykolaiv 89-63.  Daniel had 10 points and 5 assists in 25 minutes as Oleksiy Pecherov had 13 points and 6 rebounds and Joe Crispin had 10 points.  In the loss, ex-La Salle player Rodney Green had 17 points.

On Wednesday, Shavlik Randolph and the Dongguan Leopards finished off the regular season with a tough 124-114 loss to the Shanxi Dragons. The loss dropped the team to 5th in the final standings and gave them a tough place in the upcoming playoffs as they lost home court advantage in the best-of-five quarterfinal series.  Shavlik had 25 points and 13 rebounds in 40 minutes while Josh Akognon had 35 points. In the win, the two Americans put up monster efforts as ex-Southern Miss player Charles Gaines had 41 points and 10 rebounds and ex-Arizona player Marcus Williams had 37 points and 10 rebounds.

On Thursday, Jon Scheyer and Maccabi Tel Aviv claimed the Cup after defeating Maccabi Rishon 82-69 in the final.  Jon had less than a minute of game time as Keith Langford led the way with 23 points, David Bluthenthal had 12 points, and Richard Hendrix had 10 points and 9 rebounds.  In the loss, ex-Kentucky player Joe Crawford had 20 points, ex-Florida State player Derwin Kitchen had 18 points and 9 rebounds, and ex-Georgetown player Brandon Bowman had 15 points and 11 rebounds.
