Chambers Is First 2013 Commit

The Blue Devils started the class of 2013 off with a pair of commitments on Saturday afternoon. The first was Monroe (N.C.) athlete Quay Chambers who spoke to TDD about his decision.

"I committed this morning," said Quay Chambers. "I've visited Duke a few times and had really been thinking about what they were saying to me. In the end I felt like I was part of the family and it was the right place for me."

Chambers, a 6-foot-3, 180 pound athlete out of Monroe High, becomes the first commitment from the class of 2013. He was being recruited as a quarterback and wide receiver depending on the school.

"I was being recruited by North Carolina, NC State, East Carolina, and UNC Charlotte. Duke was my first offer and they made me feel like they really wanted me. The coaching staff was a really big part of my decision. They made me feel like I belonged."

Chambers was no stranger to Duke, having visited several times before. However, today was the day he had a real chance to sit down and really discuss things with the coaching staff.

"I had a chance to talk with Coach Cutcliffe, Coach Lubick, and the others. When that first offer was coming I really thought I'd wait it out, but the more I talked to them the more I felt like there was no point to. The more I visited and the more I saw the program up close, the more I knew."

During his junior season Chambers amassed nearly 3,000 yards of total offense and 40 touchdown for Monroe High, good enough for all-Conference honors.

Being such an early commit means Chambers will likely continue to hear pitches from other schools, but he says there's no need.

"I'm 100 percent solid to Duke. It's a relief to know where I'm going."
