Virginia CB commits to Duke

This past weekend Duke hosted a number of players for unofficial visits. Two committed. Now, a few days later the Blue Devils have earned a third commitment.

"I came back from my visit and sat down with my parents to talk about everything we'd seen over the weekend," said Woodbridge (Va.) cornerback Evrett Edwards. "After doing that I decided to call the coaches and commit to Duke today."

Edwards, a 5-foot-11, 175 pounder, chose Duke over Wake Forest, West Virginia, Illinois, Boston College, and Ohio. Each school had offered, but it was the opportunities in Durham that most excited him.

"They've gotten really serious about football in the past couple of years and the program is ready to turn it all around. It was something I wanted to be part of."

Turning things around has been the talk of the recruiting trail for a few seasons now, as has the relationship between the Duke coaching staff and recruits. For Edwards, it's a similar tale.

"On the visit my family and I had a really long conversation with Coach Cutcliffe. We talked for more than 45 minutes. The whole Duke staff is really big on family and commitment to one another. You have a coach who has won a National Title at Tennessee and who has coached the best players in the NFL. Those players come back to him and meet with him long after they are done with college. That's something you don't see everywhere, and honestly how can you turn that down?"

Edwards says he hopes to major in Business in Durham.
