Ward recaps his visit to Durham

Marcus Ward, safety from Vestavia, Ala., took a two-day trip this past weekend to Duke. The Blue Devils are showing a lot of interest. Ward talked in-depth about the unofficial trip to Durham.

"The visit was really good," said Marcus Ward. "It was really fun. We got there Friday around 2:00 p.m. We went to the football center. We met up with coach Middleton. We had a good time.

"I met coach Cutcliffe and coach Knowles. I met the DB coach [Derek Jones] Saturday. We went on a tour the first day and saw all the facilities. It was a really good experience.

"They had about 50 recruits at the spring game. It's a good atmosphere out there. They were preaching to us they are moving forward. The academics are really good, and they are moving in the right direction with the football program."

Ward shared more of his thoughts about the campus and academics.

"The campus is awesome," he said. "Some people might think of it as really old. It's historic. They took me to this church. It was really historic and great. They have a few campuses. It's a great town to be in. It's a great city. I love the campus.

"We talked to the academic support person. We had a long discussion about how they help the football players. They told me they want you to do well with your academics. Football is one route to go, but they always have the academics."

The Duke coaching staff has high interest in the defensive back. Ward also has strong interest in the ACC program.

"The No. 1 thing they said is they really like my tape and how I come up and strike people," Ward said. "They definitely want me to camp. I plan on attending their camp. Coach Cutcliffe said I have more of a safety body. I will see what is the best fit at camp.

"The camaraderie is what stands out the most to me about Duke. They are a family there. When coach Cutcliffe hired his staff most of them coached with him before. They are all in the family. I loved the four F's: 'Faith, Family, Football and Future.' I just love everything about it. I am very interested in Duke after the visit."

Ward plans to visit Alabama and Georgia Tech. He also plans to camp camp at Auburn and UAB.
