Earlier this week 2015 Gaffney offensive tackle T.J. Haney received his first recruiting letter from a college, Duke University. For the freshman prospect it will be the first of what will probably turn into thousands of pieces of mail for him over the next 3-4 years. The 6'6 315 pound prospect talked with SCPrepNation.com about the Blue Devils and what's ahead on his schedule in this brief update.
"Receiving the letter from Duke has really opened my eyes because I see now that hard work can open a lot of doors for me. It also motivates me to work even harder to earn more."
So with the Blue Devils being the first program to contact him what's his interest level in the ACC school?
"Duke has a very good acdemic program and that's what matter most to me. Their football program is also very impressive and I take them into deep consideration."
Haney says he's looking forward to talking more with his recruiter for the Blue Devils, Derek Jones, who is a former standout at Woodruff High School and played at Ole Miss.
He will be on the road apparently this weekend too he informed us.
"I received an invite by email to attend the Diamond Flight Camp by JuniorRank. I will be attending it in Charlotte on April 21-22."
Although he is just a freshman Haney gets a chance to practice against one of the state's top 2013 prospects in defensive end Jaylen Miller who already holds numerous offers. The freshman chimed in on what it's like taking on Miller almost everyday.
"Yes, he is one of the best d-linemen in the state and I know that going up against him everyday in practice will impact my play on the field tremendously."
