2015's Mitchell gaining interest

Five-star class of 2015 prospect Mickey Mitchell is already getting big time attention.

He is only coming off his freshman season, but Mickey Mitchell is already a household name. The Plano (Tex.) Prestonwood Christian forward has been considered one of the best in his class for a while, and after winning the 16-and under Peach Jam, coaches are paying more attention than ever.

At 6-foot-7 and about 200 pounds Mitchell is a versatile forward who might be best defensively guarding a power forward, though offensively is someone who you can run your offense through.

"I have come along well," said Mitchell of his game. "There are always things to work on, but I just have to keep improving."

Recruiting wise it is no surprise that many schools are already very interested in Mitchell.

"I have heard from Florida, Duke, North Carolina, Ohio State, Kentucky, Kansas, Texas, and schools like that," listed Mitchell.

When it comes to North Carolina, Mitchell has watched them for a while, and says it is great to hear from them this early on.

"It is crazy," said Mitchell. "Growing up I watched North Carolina and so many pros have come from there. Being recruited by them is great."

He echoed those same sentiments regarding the Duke Blue Devils.

"Hearing from Duke is great," said Mitchell. "Coach (Mike) Krzyzewski is obviously a great coach and it is good to be hearing from them this early."

One interesting thing about Mitchell involves his older brother, Mike Mitchell. Mike is a four-star linebacker who seems on the verge of making his commitment.

Some have felt that Mike's commitment will greatly impact Mickey. While the younger brother did admit it will be a factor, he says he knows this is his decision.

"I guess it affects my decision a little bit because he is my brother and I love being with him," said Mitchell. "However he has to go where he has to go and I have to go where I have to go."

The school getting the most buzz right now with Mike is Ohio State. Thad Matta and his staff made sure to be present at the Peach Jam to watch the Titans, and Mickey says he is interested in the school.

"Ohio State has been in contact some and they like how I play," said Mitchell. "As I get older it is a school I will definitely look at."

For now Mitchell says he has no timetable for a decision. Instead he is just trying to gather as much information as he can and learn about the schools.

"I look at the system and what they run," said Mitchell. "Also I pay attention to the coaches and how they coach and interact with their players."
