Early Evaluation: "Corbin was a very exciting guy who came to camp and showed out well enough to earn an offer. We first saw him on tape and were surprised a guy could move that quick and that fluid. He's still new to the game, but he's going to be a very good football player for us." - Derek Jones
What Earned The Offer: "He's a pretty strong guy who plays with a lot of power, but he's not mechanical in those movements. What we saw on camp was a guy who has all the tools to be successful and we wanted to make a commitment to that." - Derek Jones
A Defensive Back At Duke Needs To: "For me it comes back to what we've seen the player do from a mental aspect. In high school the guys are relying heavily on the coaches and learning their schemes while refining their games. We are looking for guys who can come in and will really commit to the mental preparation. Which guys will do the work in the film room to make themselves better? That's who we want."
"With Corbin we saw a guy who really seemed to be able to read the quarterbacks and use that to his advantage." - Derek Jones
Projecting the Position: "We see Corbin as a guy who will come in and be a bit of a twiner between safety and cornerback. He's got the speed to play corner and he's certainly physical enough to play safety." - Derek Jones
"Coach (David) Cutcliffe and I had a meeting at nine on Sunday morning. We sat down and he said they were offering me a scholarship, and I decided I liked it so much that I wanted to commit. The deciding actor was the people. It is a family-oriented team."
McCarthy said that Coach Cutcliffe did not appear to be expecting an immediate commitment from him, but says that the Duke coaching staff was extremely thrilled to hear that he was joining the program.
"Coach Cut was definitely surprised when I committed, but the entire coaching staff was really happy. It was welcome to the family and bright smiles and hugs. It was real good."
