Position: Defensive Back
Ht/Wt: 6-foot-1, 185 pounds
Projected 2012 Status: Redshirt
Early Evaluation: "Dwayne was a guy we had in camp and whose tape was one that kept catching our eye. He comes from a great program in Florida and he produced against very good competition at the high school level." - Derek Jones
Projected Position: "He's definitely a pure safety for us. He has a lot of the same characteristics as Matt Daniels did. He's got great size and he's a very physical football player. He's not a guy who gets stuck on blocks and he's certainly a guy we envision being a stopper in our backfield." - Derek Jones
Differences in DBs at Duke: "It's really two distinct positions and we're looking for two kinds of guys who also have some common traits. At corner we're looking for guys who may be a little smaller, but who can run. We don't get wrapped up in measurements if we like what we see from a guy on the field. If a guy is 5'8 and can play the game, we'd rather have him than getting a guy who has the measureables, but isn't a football player." - Derek Jones
"At safety we go for guys who are bigger and stronger. Looking for guys who are at least six feet and 200 pounds. That's important because these guys are going to be in the second stage of the defense and will be expected to come up and play with he linebackers to meet the opposing running backs. They need the extra weight to deal with the kind of wear and tear that kind of position demands. All that being said, we still want them to have speed and fluidity." - Derek Jones
"Each time I was up there, the coaches and the school at large made a great impression and I had a wonderful trip. I enjoyed myself while I was on campus and felt at home each time I was there. Something I didn't really expect was to feel at home in North Carolina, but when I got around all the players and the coaches it was hard not to get that feeling. Also, when you see the plans they have and are working on, there are going to be some really big things happening at Duke in the next few years."
"My recruiting coach and I have a great relationship. Actually I have a great relationship with all the Duke coaches. Their biggest strength in recruiting me has been staying in contact and keeping Duke on my mind with the letters, and emails. The coaches have really talked about the new football facility they are building which will be on the same level as their basketball facility, which is among the best in the world. They are now starting to get high caliber players to come in as well. It is how big time programs start."
